The School Readiness Initiative is engaged in several initiative-wide evaluation activities. The primary activity was the implementation of a one-year focused outcomes study.
American Institutes for Research [1] (AIR) conducted the parent and child outcomes study. The study was conducted primarily from January through August of 2007. The parent outcomes study consisted of a survey administered to parents at two points in time. It measured several constructs including parenting practices, changes attitudes and behaviors, and perceived changes in their children that participate in School Readiness programs.
The child outcomes study was a one-time assessment of four and five year old children across School Readiness grantee programs. The assessment included a variety of developmental measures on literacy, numeracy and cognitive development.
First 5 LA supplemented the parent and child outcomes studies with a case study on collaboration, parent focus groups and a summary of grantee local evaluation findings.
